Originally built by two brothers, Daniel and Dishbrow Calkins, who came to the area to work on the Erie Canal, the house has been in the Martin family since 1954. Built over a period from 1830-1837, the house is constructed of multicolored fieldstones( avg. 2.5x4 in. ) laid 4 courses per quoin on the front side, with larger stones laid 3 to the quoin on the rear. The quoins and lintels are grey limestone. Note the brick sidelights on the front door.
