The Dover Jail was built in 1904 on the South East Corner of Herrold and City Hall Drives in Dover Borough. Legend has it that the first occupants were the Hess brothers, the masons who became inebriated while celebrating the completion of the jail.
Over the years, the jail became obsolete. The borough used it as a storage shed and without windows, deterioration set in. The property was sold several times before being purchased by Goldie and George Emig who built a residence on the site.
The jail was picked up and moved to its current location at the address below. There is a plaque showing the original location at these coordinates:
