The Wanamaker Kempton & Southern Railroad is located just N of the town of Kempton and provides a 3-mile trip to the past (and back).

The WK&S has a nice collection of rolling stock, and is nicknamed the "Hawk Mountain Line" due to the nearby Hawk Mountain bird sanctuary.
The WK&S was formed in 1962 & bought a few miles of track from the Reading RR. During the 70's the Reading began pulling up tracks to the south & left the WK&S w/ a little more that 4 miles of track ..with dead-ends on each side! Around that time, WK&S had been operating a passenger service between Kempton & Wanamaker - which folded in 1969. A year later, the railroad was revived as a volunteer-staffed enterprise - and is to this day.
The Railroad owns several engines - both steam & diesel. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!
