On July 11, 1963, Webers Hamburgers and Hotdogs opens north of Orillia, Ontario on Highway 11. The resturant quicky becomes one of the places to go to and the line ups for food are bigger than the traffic jams on the highway going north. In June 1981, the Ministry of Transportation installed a boxbeam barrier along a section of Highway 11, creating a serious challenge to Webers and its continued success. Then in June 1982, the Ministry of Transportation installed a chain-link fence above the boxbeam barrier to stop the tens of thousands of people who were crossing over the highway barrier. So, in September 1983, Webers acquires a portion of the pedestrian bridge from the CN Tower in Toronto. It is erected in the fall of 1983 and became the first and only privately owned bridge built over a public highway in the Province of Ontario.
