It is empty now- but from what I've read on the Internet- I think this is the depot that saw Lincoln's funeral train pull through back in 1865. According to the site, Dayton, Ohio had a better laid train track- but because of the "Copperheads" anti-war Democrats up north- the train took a detour along a less populated route through Ohio on its way to Illinois- in hopes of avoiding any protesters. It would have been the middle of the night when it passed through Greenvile- but it still could have stopped for ice. According to the website- Lincoln wasn't embalmed and the undertaker on board asked for frequent stops to pack Lincoln's body in ice and to get fresh floral arrangements on board.
