This library started out as the Kutztown Public Library in 1941 - when Louisa M. Gonser bequeathed her home on Main Street for use as free public library and a YMCA. The library was established in 1949 when the Business & Professional Women's Club set up a children's reading library in the building.
In 1958 the growing library moved to the old town hall on Whiteoak Street, and in 1989 it moved to the lower level of the Municipal Building.
The current address is 70 Bieber Alley - a building which has served as barn, slaughterhouse, and plumber's office. The Kutztown Public Library moved to this location & reopened as the Louisa Gonser Community Library in 1998.
