Ida Yarn Mill
Second oldest textile manufacturing plant in Scotland County. Built by Mark Morgan in 1882. Powered by water wheels. Named in memory of Ida Malloy Morgan (1874-1876) deceased infant daughter of Mark and Margaret Cameron Morgan. Operated here until 1939.
A old and faded address marker mentions 10861 (Hwy 74) locallly known as Andrew Jackson Hwy. I think this would still be the correct physical address, but it does not register as a valid current map address.
The address would be:
Ida Yarn Mill
10861 Andrew Jackson Hwy (Hwy 74)
Laurel Hill, NC 28351
Have seen this marker for several years on the way to and from Myrtle Beach, SC. I enjoy seeing historic places around NC/SC. just wish it was still in operation.
Whoever had this sign made, did a great job. This is one of the best condition private sponsored signs I have seen. Thank you to whoever did this to help preserve some NC history for future generations.
