The monument is dedicated to the men of Ashburnham who fought in the Civil War. Melvin Ohio Adams erected the monument using $5,000 he received from the sale of his Winchester estate to the Town of Ashburnham for a new town hall. The monument was installed near the new town hall, the Jacob H. Fairbanks Memorial Hall, and the two were dedicated on the same day in the year 1904.
