This well-loved Farmer's Market brings fresh local foods and beverages each Wednesday. More than this, it brings our South Seattle community together. Every Wednesday of the warmer months, it's always a hubbub of culinary and social activity.

The best way to experience the Columbia City Farmer's Market is to just come on down. :-) This Seattle market is just south of downtown and is part of the Ranier Valley. You can taste the free samples, hear the neighborhood gossip, and maybe even grab some healthy ingredients for your kitchen.
You'll see:
- farmers from Western Washington show off their harvests and concoctions
- lots of organic choices
- seafood (fresh, canned, smoked, etc.)
- meats
- all manner of seasonal fruit and veggies
- several fresh flower stands where the ladies will gladly create a bouquet with your specifications
- plants for your garden
- eggs
- fresh pasta
- cheeses, milk and butter
- very friendly vendors like Lola's daddy, a baker, who hand-carries all of his wares from nearby Hillman City via a couple of red wagons
- more!
To be consumed on the spot:
(I suppose one could say that all the foods there count in this section. These tend to be eaten right away, though. Most folks do not buy these for later consumption.)
- gelato
- quesadillas made to order
- organic and vegetarian offerings prepared by a white guy with a sense of humor and a conscience: his business is called GreenGo. (Get it?)
- fresh juices
- more!
Other Information
It's been going on since 1998.
Janet Hurt of the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance usually posts to the neighborhood wiki regarding the sort of offerings that will be especially interesting each week.
A neighboring restaurant, La Medua, usually has a Market Special on Wednesday nights: she'll cook only what was purchased from the market that day.
Aside from the food and beverages, there is usually free live music and a free activity of some sort for the kids. As an added benefit, we have a racially diverse collection of both vendors and customers. You will also enjoy the community garden along the Edmunds Street sidewalk that was planted and is cared for by neighbors. Columbia Park is adjacent to the market so many people hang out there with friends, families and neighbors.
From their website:
The Pacific Northwest climate offers excellent growing conditions for an incredible variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Our local, small-scale, family farms cultivate many unusual, heirloom and unique varieties that cannot be found in regular grocery stores.
If you would like even more information, there are folks in the little office (a large shed, really) who would be glad to talk with you.
