In 1309 the land, house and water mills were given by the Abbot of Peterborough to his son. This is the earliest mention I can find in reference to the manor in Ashton. It is named again in 1504 and then the revenues of the Abbey are given including the Manor House in 1553 when the Crown sold the Estate to Hugh Lawe and Thomas Lawe.

In recent years the Rothschilds took over the Estate, now the house is a private residence.
