Fallingwater, a residence for the Kaufmann family built in 1935, is considered one of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces. The striking linear forms of the building straddle a river and counter the shapes of the rocks. Long, wide interior windows draw one's vision outward to the forested landscape, Surprisingly, though, the building's interior felt cramped, and folks over six feet tall found themselves having to watch out for the ceiling in several places.
This 20 cent stamp is part of a 4-stamp plate block featuring modern architects Wright, Mies van der Rohe, Gropius, and Eero Saarinen. The block is Scott catalog #2019-2022, and this stamp is #2019 from 1982.
