The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco was part of the Panama-Pacific American Exposition of 1915. It was designed by architect Bernard Maybeck (1862-1957). The building is commemorated in this 1981 18-cent stamp, part of a 4-stamp architectural plate block from this year. (Scott Catalog # 1928-1931 issued August 28, 1981).
