On the campus of the University of Oregon is a building which once was a high school. Many people today, don't realize that many high school students once were part of the campus life. My mother and her siblings were some of these students.

The University of Oregon started a “cadet” teacher preparation school in 1916, which was first a junior high school and then became University High School for Eugene, Oregon. The building which became University High School was built in September of 1920 by Architects Lawrence & Holford. By 1920, the school became so well attended that the enrollment had to be limited. In 1953, University High School closed and the students are moved elsewhere in the Eugene school system. The School of Education for the University of Oregon took over the building for classroom use and tore down the open air gym which was once attached to the building.
