Wakefield is the hub of activity in the Western U.P. located at the junction of US 2, M 28 and Cty Rd 519 on the south shore of beautiful Sunday Lake. The Lake offers Eddy Park, a nice park with a pavilion, swimming, picnic tables, playground, camping, fishing and boating. You’ll see many folks enjoying a walk around the lake, and it's a beautiful spot to watch a sunset too.
Stop by the visitors center for free coffee, information and collectibles. Visit Peter Toth's 60th monument in "The Trail of the Whispering Giants" carved from a local pine tree. A brother statue, 1/3 the size, also carved by Peter Toth, is located at Wilderness Chalet at Indianhead Mountain Resort.
Winter turns us into Big Snow Country - "Ski the Best" at Indianhead Mountain Resort, only 1 mile from downtown. Nordic skiing abounds with trails for all levels. Wakefield is located on the main snowmobile trails and offers gas, food, and lodging. Many other winter activities are available close by.
