This pillar is located within the Grounds ot the Herstmonceux Castle and Observatory. It is located to the side of the 1066 Country walk that runs through this site and can be reached by parking at the All Saints Church at the end of Church Lane.(check the cut bench mark while you're there)
There is an object fitted to the top of the trig point and on asking a friendly worker was told it was a GPS receiver used by the team located in the nearby buildings.
