It is a woodland supported by the Millennium Commission, the Forestry Authority and the Salisbury Family Charitable Trusts. The site is a total of 11 acres and was acquired by the Woodland Trust in 1999. With the help of many local people the wood was planted in February 2000.

The wood consists of oak, ash and field maple, Scots pine, wild cherry, crab apple, willow, alder, lime, birch, yew and holly. There are over 8000 trees used in the wood and in the glades are specimen trees of wild service, fir and beech.

There are 2.5km of pathways which at present is a mattress of flowering clover.
