Abraham Lincoln's only political speech in his native state, here, in 1840, at age 31. An elector from Illinois, he campaigned for the Whig Presidental candidate William Henry Harrison. From Shawneetown, across the river, Lincoln led parade. Young ladies rode on floats drawn by white horses. Cannon for salute, burst upon firing. Its breech is at Kentucky Historical Society.
