This building was built in 1901 and served as the Sandstone High School until September 21, 1909 when it was struck by lightning. Nothing was saved from the subsequent fire except for a few books and the exterior walls of the structure. Classes were moved to the old Library building nearby, while the building was rebuilt and doubled in size. The closeup photo of the flagstaff on top of the building shows the Sandstone High School logo, along with both dates of construction: 1910 and 1901. Other information on this magnificent building is exceedingly scarce, although we do know that Governor J.A.A. Burnquist gave a speech in the back of the school in 1920.
