Located just up the hill from Historic Point Richmond, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church was dedicated in 1903. It's rectory was expanded greatly in 1906 when refugees from the San Francisco earthquake moved here. The church was originally an ornate Victorian a style typical of buildings in the area, but due to moisture damage (the Bay influence is felt strongly here in Point Richmond), it was changed to its current boxy, shingled style. (From Historic Downtown Richmond: A Short Walking Tour, available at the Point Richmond History Museum.)
