William Hunter (1718 – 1783) was a Scottish anatomist and obstetrician.

He was physician to Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, and attended the birth of her children [1,2].

He was also interested in art and was professor of anatomy at the Royal Academy of Arts in London from 1769 until 1772 [2].

Hunter's personal collection of scientific and artistic books artefacts and coins, along with a bequest of £8,000 formed the basis for the Univeristy of Glasgow's Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery. [1,3]
