Originally the Hotel Mac was known as the Colonial Hotel. It was constructed in 1911, and at the time was proclaimed by a newspaper article to be "one of the finest in the country" (Historic Point Richmond Walking Guide, n.d.).
For a number of years, the building was in disrepair, but was bought by the McAfee family, and the name changed. It now houses an elegant restaurant and bar as well as offering lodging.

Point Richmond is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the hotel is considered a contributing building.
