Corps of Discovery II – Chamberlain, SD, is a 12-inch Lewis and Clark commemorative disk located near the Lewis and Clark Information Center south of Chamberlain. It is in the NGS database at PID = DH4418: (

The station is located on a bluff near the Lewis and Clark Information Center at the rest area between Exit 263 AND Exit 265 from Interstate Highway 90 near Chamberlain, Brule County, South Dakota. The disk is mounted in a 24-inch by 24-inch concrete pad that projects about two inches. It is about 10 feet east of the east edge of a concrete sidewalk, about eight feet northwest of a three-foot by three-foot by four-foot stone pedestal that supports a bronze plaque for the American Society of Civil Engineers, and about six feet north of a Lewis and Clark interpretive marker. It was dedicated during the “Ocetisakowin Experience” national signature event on September 24, 2004, and visited by this correspondent on July 13, 2005. The disk does not have any identifying stamping other than the standard design elements of the commemorative series of disks: CORPS OF DISCOVERY II – 200 YEARS TO THE FUTURE – PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP. To reach from Interstate 90, follow the signs for the rest area between Exits 263 and 265. Follow the exit road and driveway to the Lewis and Clark Information Center. From the flagpole at the northeast corner of the center, walk northeast and north on a concrete sidewalk for about 330 feet to the historical marker and the disk on the right.
