A very easy Benchmark to find. You can see it from miles around. Its the tip of the spire, on top of the gold dome thats sits on the Connecticut State Capital. The capital is in Bushnell Park, downtown Hartford. The only benchmark in Bushnell Park.
The original setting, a Head of Victory, has been replaced with a different spire.
The most recent NGS note is:
RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1978 (GEL) THE STATION IS THE TOP CENTER OF THE HARTFORD CAPITOL SPIRE THE BUILDING IS A MASSIVE STRUCTURE OF GRAY STONE AND AND APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET IN HEIGHT. IT IS ON PROPERTY OWNED BY THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT AND IS LOCATED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF CAPITOL AVENUE AND NORTHWEST OF LAFAYETTE SQUARE IN THE CENTER OF HARTFORD. THE STATION WAS PREVIOUSLY LISTED AS HARTFORD CAPITOL HEAD OF VICTORY.
Please take a picture of you and the capital as proof that you visited the area. Remember to log your visit to the other waymarks associated with the Capital Building too.
