The Church of St Mary the Virgin at Rattery has several lovely stained glass windows. The East window has a typical example of the Victorian period. A liking for canopy work & all painted ground. Fine line work in painting.
East Window : Lady Chapel, beautiful picture of Our Lady. Done in period 1800-1870 Dark with wide use of pure Blue, Yellow, Red & Green glass, less emphasis on line work.
South Window : Lady Chapel. Figure of St Peter, details as for East window.
East window : South Transept. St James. Rather cruder type of painting, period 1850-1890.
North Aisle Window. A much more modern style with white glasses becoming prominent & colours being subdued.
North Window : Organ Chapel. A good example of the use of acid, enamels & stains. Germans & Flemish style. Periob 1850-1880.
Large Plain Windows. Interesting for period & some from the point of view that borders are all acided & embossed in Ruby, an old process.
