The Regent Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb was built in 1925 and gala opening was in April 22, 1925. It is located in the center of Zagreb, near the main railway station. The Regent Esplanade Hotel is one of the most beautiful examples of Art Deco in Zagreb.
Originally hotel was built to service passengers arriving on the Orient Express. Some of the world famous persons that stayed in the hotel were Josephine Baker, Charles Lindbergh, Orson Wells, Liv Ullman, Louis Armstrong and Woody Allen.
During the Second World War the Esplanade hotel became the Gestapo's and Wermacht's headquarter in Zagreb. After the Second World War the hotel was turned into a public kitchen. In 1957 it was reopened again as hotel. Today The Regent Esplanade Hotel is vital part of Zagreb's social life and is a meeting point of businessmen, politicians, journalists and famous writers.
In 2004 hotel joined the distinguished hotel chain - Regent International Hotels.
