The Flat Rock overlook affords a breathtaking 180° view of 50+ miles of the Cumberland Valley.
The hike to this large outcropping along Blue Mountain begins with a short section where the climb seems to approach 40° near a small springhouse, then continues up the mountain with a series of switchbacks until you reach the top. This part of the trail is also part of the Tuscarora Trail. At this point, you cross into Perry County, and soon arrive at The Wagonwheel - where several trails meet. By staying right you will travel to the S along relatively gentle terrain, until climbing again to the mountain summit & the county border - crossing back into Cumberland county at a worn NGS (KW2860) benchmark located right in the middle of the trail. From there, it's a few hundred feet S & downhill to the rock and the overlook.
