Dr. William R. Brooks discovered no less than 27 different comets from this observatory in the late 1800's. See the URL for a great article from the New York times of over 100 years ago. Dr. Brooks was the director of the Observatory and a professor at Hobart in the late 1800's.

The Observatory is now private, but will be open to the public on the third Sunday in July and August.
