State President Paul Kruger of the Transvaal Republic laid the cornerstone to this church on 10 October 1896 on his 71st birthday.
The church is still used today and is also a historical monument. Inside, the chairs that he and his wife Gezina sat on is visible.
The clock tower had no hour hands on it and it was told that British soldiers stole the hands believing it to be Gold. The fact is that there never were hands on the dummy clock face plates ever. Recently the hands presently on the North facing clock face were installed to depict the time then for Sunday morning's sermon, - 09:30 - .
Along with the Kruger residence the church were the first premises to receive electric lighting by Sammy Marks in Pretoria.
