The Lafayette County Fire Department, established in 1977, started with three founding members and a home-made apparatus. The LCFD currently has over 150 members, operates out of fourteen stations, and utilizes over thirty-five pieces of equipment to serve the citizens of Lafayette County.

The department serves over 40,000 people and covers 679 square miles. Some of the capabilities of the Lafayette County Fire Department consist of fire suppression, search and rescue, hazardous materials response, and other special operations. Recently, the LCFD added a dynamic training facility to further the skills and knowledge of firefighters through hands-on training evolutions. The training facility provides approximately 1000 square feet of training space and is located at the Central Fire Station.
