On the morning of June 29, 1863, J.E.B. Stuart's calvary encountered a detachment of Union troops, known as Seven Hundred Loyal Eastern Shoremen, which was part of the First Eastern Shore Infantry Regiment.
Stuart's troops won the day and captured the unit, then continued on to Gettysburg. It is believed by some historians that the Confederates lost the battle at Gettysburg in large part due to Stuart’s delay in arriving.
