This war memorial is very similar to the war memorial at Bere Alston which is in the same parish. The names on the war memorial are the same on both monuments. There is a tablet on the memorial which records the sad loss of 10 New Zealand soldiers who died in an accident at Bere Ferrers station on 24 September 1917. The troop train they were traveling in made an unscheduled at Bere Ferrers and the men climbed out of the train on to the down line and where struck by a Plymouth bound express. The soldiers were later buried at Efford Cemetery, Plymouth.
