The wrought iron railings and cast iron plaque posts came from the old viaduct that carried North Tenth Street over the railroad tracks. The 10-span bridge was built in 1910 as a joint project of three railroads - The CB&Q, Missouri Pacific, and Chicago & Northwestern. In 1936 the City of Lincoln replaced the timber decking and added sidewalks that cantilevered east and west beyond the roadway; the crisscross pattern wrought iron railings protected pedestrians on those sidewalks. The viaduct was demolished in 1992 and replaced with the current separate vehicular and pedestrian bridges.
