Roadside Interpretive Kiosk on Ore. Hwy. 31 Fort Rock Junction on the Outback Scenic Byway. The kiosk contains four signs: Fossil Record (geology), A Thirsty Land (geology), Local Attractions, and Byway Description.
The Outback Scenic Byway extends for a 170 miles from La Pine to the California border following Ore. Hwy. 31 and U.S. Hwy. 395. The route was designated as an Oregon State Scenic Byway on February 19, 1997 and as a National Scenic Byway on June 9, 1998.
