Topaz Lake is stop No. 1 along the Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway. It is a reservoir formed by the West Walker River, located along the California-Nevada border. The lake is popular for boaters, water-skiers, campers, and fishermen.

The Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway is managed by the Coalition for Unified Recreation in the Eastern Sierra, an organization that unites representatives from government agencies like the National Park Service, the US Forrest Service and the National Highway Administration, local administrations like Inyo and Mono County as well as the outdoor recreation industries, user groups, environmental organizations and the community at-large.
