Woodson K. Woods Wildlife Area Access is noted as the highest practical put-in on the river (mile 26.2 on river). From this access point trips of many different length can be started ranging from a couple miles to almost 170 miles ending at the Mississippi River. Except when the river is at flood levels the river is in general a flat water river with only small riffles. There are several private and public campgrounds along the river and several different access/take-out points. The river is a clear spring fed river with several springs feeding the river.
