This 256 acre fairground is known as America's Fair. It runs annually in early August for eleven days. Typically over one million guests attend the fair each year. There are concerts, livestock, conservation demonstrations, and more. The fairgrounds also boosts a fire fighters museum with a collection of vintage fire fighting equipment. There is plenty of standard fair food, some local specialties as well, and a very popular garbage plate stand from the Rochester area.
When's the Fair?: Eleven days starting the first week of August.
Who's at the Fair?:
The Agricultural Society which organizes and runs the fair was established in 1819, then called the Niagara County Horticultural Society. It held its first fair in 1820. One year later, Niagara County split into Erie and Niagara Counties, and so did the agricultural society. The Erie County Agricultural Society is the oldest civic, community member organization in Erie County. After financial troubles in the early 1840's, the Agricultural Society reformed and has run this county fair since 1841. This site in Hamburg has been home to the fair since 1868.
In addition to the Agricultural Society, local 4H chapters and the Erie County Grange participate in the fair. The fair hosts a very large antique tractor exhibit each year.
