The Sorosis Club was organized in March 1922 when several local women met at the home of Mrs. George Wright. The group decided to call itself the Sorosis Club. The sign located at the original site says, in part: "In 1922 the Sorosis Club or sorority, a women's club in Lakeland, was organized. Named after the first incorporated women's club in America, the Sorosis Cloub of New York, the Sorosis Club's mission included service to the community, as well as social and cultural activities."
In 1986, the Sorosis Club merged with the Women's Club of Lakeland to form what is now called The United Women's Club of Lakeland, Inc. It is part of the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs and the General Federation of Women's Clubs.
