In Memory of RUSSELL, MAJORS AND WADDELL
Pioneer freighters of Lexington before the Civil War. Founders of the famous Pony Express, Outfitters for the Mexico and California Traders, And the Western Army Posts. Operators of Overland Wagon Trains across the Great Plains. Employing four thousand men and thirty five hundred wagons, One thousand mules and forty thousand oxen. Headquarters in Lexington.
History of Mark: Their offices were in the city of Lexington, across the street from this Pony Express marker on the courthouse lawn.
