Dodge County placed this stone monument which stands in a fenced enclosure by hwy. 77, on the north edge of Fremont, Nebraska, on the flood plain north of the Platte River. An old Indian trail passed through here. It was the route followed here by Major Stephan H. Long in 1820 on an exploration that passed through parts of Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. From 1847 to 1864 Mormon emigrants and gold rush pioneers passed through here.
