Jessica Lyn Keen was abducted from a bus stop in Columbus, Ohio in March of 1991. Her body was found two days later, on March 17, 1991, in Foster Chapel Cemetery. It was discovered that she was raped and beaten. At the time, her boyfriend, Shawn Thompson, was the primary suspect. DNA evidence ruled him out as a suspect. Even with little to go on the Madison County Sheriff's Department kept trying to find her killer. The case appeared twice on Crime Stoppers, and also appeared nationally on the TV show
Unsolved Mysteries. Nothing could be found until recently.
On April 9, 2008 it was announced that Marvin Lee Smith was arrested in Burlington, NC in connection with the crime. A few months after Keen's murder Smith was imprisoned in North Carolina on unrelated rape charges. When he was processed through the system a sample of his DNA was collected. They were finally able to match samples taken at the murder scene. Smith has been extradited to Ohio to face charges here.
