On our last visit to Turkey Swamp Park, I noticed something new, something shiny by the visitor center. It was a reflective badge on a 4x4, with an inscription underneath..."Nat Schaffner Eagle Project Orienteering Course Fall 2006 Troop 18 MCBSA"
It had been a few years since I was in the park, and thought the idea of an orienteering course was fabulous. After all, had I joined scouting when I was younger, perhaps I wouldn't be as "directionally challenged" as I can be.
I researched the project and found the troop's site, and was able to read Nat's description of the project...http://www.freeholdtroop18.org/files/final%20workbook%20final%20Nat%20S%20blacked%20out.pdf
Nat calculated the approximate man hours, and materials needed, and also coordinated with the park Rangers to ensure the installation of markers did no harm to the environment.
