Parkitecture
The Octagon Shelter like most CCC Structures used "Rustic Style" architecture developed in the early 1900's by the National Park Service Planners. Coined "parkitecture" the rustic style emphasizes low silhouettes, horizontal lines, and colors and materals found in local surroundings. The octagon shape is reminiscent of shelters found in the Adirondack Mountains which provide sweeping views of the surrounding area.
"The use of native materials in the proper scale, and the thorough avoidance of rigid, straight lines and over sophistication, gives the feeling of having been executed by pioneer craftsman with limited hand tools. It achieves sympathy with natural surroundings and with the past."
A.H. Good, Akron Architect and designer of the Virgina Kendall defining rustic architecture.
This beautiful shelter includes two fireplaces, Men and Womens restrooms, a primitive kitchen, room for eight picnic tables and a basement.
