On the southeast side of 5th Avenue between East 50th and East 51st Streets, the station is the horizontal bar of a chiseled 'T' in the vertical southwest face of the first pillar southwest of the main entrance to St. Patrick's Cathedral, about 18 feet southwest of the center of the main entrance to the cathedral 18 inches southeast of the west corner of the pillar and 2.2 feet above the level of the wide step.
