Fort Toulouse is along the banks of the Coosa River and the Tallapoosa River flows here also, to form the Alabama River, which runs across the southern part of the state and meanders down to near Mobile where it joins the Tombigbee River. It was important to the area from the time that the Indians occupied the land until today where it is used to transport cargo and equipment and is important for farming.
