This chimney is one of two built following problems with arsenic fumes affecting the village of Luckett from the nearby New Consuls mine, some 130 years ago. A flue of over half a mile in length was constructed with the chimney at the top end to take the fumes away from the village.
The chimney is a prominent feature in the local historic mining landscape. It is hoped it will be restored under the Environmental Stewardship Scheme thereby protecting it for future generations to see.
There is a permissive footpath to enable visitor to get close to the chimney. The entrance gate is at the co-ordinates given below as an additional waymark.
