This church is a classic New England white church that prominently stands at the edge of downtown Needham.
The web site for the church states that in October 1854, the First Baptist Society was formed and the building of a church began. The first public services in the church started in June 1855. In 1888, the name was officially called the "The First Baptist Church in Needham."
The web site further states, "In the fall of 1928, the church was moved from the corner of Great Plain and Highland Avenues to its current by two teams of horses. This process took nearly one week to complete. An enlarged and remodeled church building was dedicated on June 9, 1929. The spire reached 125 feet and remains to this day the highest structure in the town."
In the 1950s, the church had grown so much that they began expansion of the building, which was completed in 1967.
Rennovations to the steeple and clock were done in 2003.
I have attended a few celebrations at this church including Christmas Eve services and an outdoor festival that included a bluegrass band.
