Northeast from the library, at the east end of Lowry Street, MEMORIAL
TOWER, a Gothic-type native white-limestone structure rising 140 feet, forms an
entrance arch to White Campus. The Tower, dedicated as a World War memorial in
1926, contains tablets inscribed with the names of 118 students who lost their
lives in the war. The illuminated clock over the archway, and the chimes were
added in 1936. ~ from Missouri: A Guide to the "Show Me" State, 1941,
