St. Joseph's Parish has it's roots in 1856, when a small log chapel was built on Medicine Lake as a mission parish for French-Canadian settlers. In 1877, seven acres of land were donated to the parish at it's current location. The 36 by 80 foot church building you see here was completed at the cost of $2,600, all donated by church members.
In 1965, the parish purchased 11 acres of land in nearby New Hope, on the southwest corner of Boone Avenue and 36th Avenue. In 1970, ground was broken there for a new church, to house the parish that had grown to over 1,200 families. The parish community currently worships at New Hope at the new location, while this church in Plymouth (now known as the "Little Church") still stands as a historic landmark on the original site. The original bell from 1877 still hangs in the steeple today!
If you're visiting this church, the cross atop the spire is also a loggable benchmark (PID QO1731). You can log it by following this link: (
