The University of Oregon has a long history relating to Track and Field.

Hayward Field has been the site of the four Olympic trials and eight NCAA championships.

It was here that Nike was born.

The running and coaching legends of Steve Prefontaine and Bill Bowerman were developed or created on this field and one of these met a tragic end near the field where his legend was made.
