The Willamette River cuts right through the heart of Salem. And since the capitol has flooded on occasion, monitoring the level of the river can be critical. This gauge at the park in downtown Salem is one of a series along the length of the river. Downtown Salem is usually comfortably higher than river level, but areas downstream can be warned from this gauge.
RIVER GAUGE INFORMATION:
The only visible information is the height of the water in feet, except for a smaller separate gauge near the water which measures in tenths of a foot.
